10 iPhone Tips That Will Change Your Life!

Airplane Mode is good for something! Turn on Airplane Mode in Settings and your iPhone will charge twice as fast.

Use Google Maps overseas or offline: While you are still online go to the area that you want to save in Google Maps. In the Search bar type ok maps then press Search. Your map will now be cached.

Quickly type a domain in Safari: type the first part of the domain then hold the period key down and a selection of top-level domains pop-up for you to choose from.

Child proof your phone: To keep your child from calling the Boss while they are playing a game. Go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn Guided Access on. Follow the instructions so your child can only access one App.
Invert colours for better night viewing: Go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn on Invert Colors.

More Selfies! Take selfies by using the volume button on your earbud cable.
Quick photos: When your phone is locked, swipe up from the bottom right corner and take that pic.

Scroll to the top of a screen quickly: Tap on the top of any app (right up by the time display) to return to the top of that screen.
Touch the very top of the screen to move to the top of the app
Need a Level Gauge?: open the Compass app and swipe across to the Level Gauge.
Lost the iPhone Search function?: swipe down on any of the home screens and the search bar appears at the top.

Are Your iPhone Photos Giving Away Too Much Information?

When you take a photo with your iPhone there is information that is automatically encoded in each photo. Information like what type of device the photo was taken with, what date the photo was taken and where it was taken. This information is called EXIF data.

This data has many benefits including enabling you to easily tell when and where a photo was taken. iPhone users that have upgraded to iOS 7 will notice that their photos are now grouped to the day the photos were taken. EXIF data makes this possible.

The downside is that when you share these photos with others they can easily see where a photo was taken and when.

But before you start deleting all your Facebook photos you should know that social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest automatically strip this data from your photos when you share them.

You should be aware though that photos that you share via email, Dropbox or other photo-sharing services such as Flickr, will keep all EXIF data intact unless you have removed it yourself or you have changed your account settings.

If you want to be sure that the location of your photos cannot be read then turning this feature off on your iPhone is easy;

Go to Settings>Privacy>Location Services and turn off Camera

What is data insurance?

Picture this; your computer suddenly refuses to turn on. Would you miss any of the photos, music or documents that are stored on it?

If the very thought of this fills you with terror then you most likely do not have Data Insurance.

OK, so back to my question, what is data insurance? Data Insurance is Data Backup

Just like insurance on your home gives you piece of mind should anything happen to your home, Data Backup gives you piece of mind should anything happen to the computer that contains all of your precious photos and documents.

Ok, enough with the scare tactics.

What do I do about it?

Ah, I’m glad you asked. That’s easy and, free.

There are a number of services that will automatically store your data on their servers. Once set up you no longer have to worry about what happens, if the worst happens.

Next step?

Click on any of the links below and read up on what each service has to offer. They are all essentially the same so it doesn’t really matter which service you choose.

Once you have decided on one the next steps are basically;

Download the application – each service has a download link for its application
Install the application – this will create a folder on your computer that is copied to the service’s servers
Sign up for an account – during the installation process you will be asked to sign up with the service
Sign in with your new account and copy all of your important data into the newly created folder

You’re done!

An added bonus is that these services all have Apps that can be installed on your smart phone or tablet so that you can access your data on them as well.

How to get Microsoft Office on 5 Computers for the Price of One

You may have heard of Microsoft’s new online version of its Office Suite called Office365. This is a subscription based service that was originally released for businesses.

The good news is that Microsoft have released a home user version called Office365 Home Premium. Home Premium is available to personal users and entitles them to have Office Professional 2013 installed on 5 personal computers and/or mobile devices, including iPhones. Also, if you have any Macs in the house you will be able to use Office 2011 for Mac!

The subscription costs around $120/year and includes all Microsoft’s Office applications, 20GB of online storage and Skype credit.

If you have multiple computers at home and need Office on all of them then this could be just the ticket!
